Abstract
The possibility of noise induced hearing loss(NIHL) in military workers is accepted to many but never documented. One military worker that underwent military worker¡¯s periodic examination showed characteristics of noise induced hearing loss(NIHL) in his audiogram. He is a 51 year-old male worker with no previous otologic history and trauma history. He has worked at the department of non-destructive inspection in one airbase for 25 years. His results of Pure Tone Audiometry, and BERA(Brainstem Electric Response Audiometry) showed characteristic of sensorineural hearing loss. Hearing threshold of left ear at 4000 §Ô were 60 §¼ BC, 85 §¼ AC, and that of right ear were 60 §¼ BC, 70 §¼ BC. Average hearing threshold of right ear at 500 §Ô, 1000 §Ô, 2000 §Ô exceeded 30 §¼ both through bone conduction and air conduction. We conclude this case is the first military worker with NIHL that satisfied the decision guidelines of occupational disease in Korean Occupational Safety & Heal th Act.
